Therapy Resources for Teaching Gateway©
In order to attain communicative competence as a user of AAC, an individual must achieve: (1) operational competence, (2) linguistic competence, (3) social competence and (4) strategic competence. The following lesson plans are designed to help SLP's address 3 areas of “linguistic competence” - vocabulary, language, and literacy. Using commercially available therapy materials that many clinicians already own or use (Super Duper Publications - http://www.superduperinc.com/) the lesson plans suggest goals relevant to learning language using Gateway© and ease the task of modifying commercially available therapy materials. A special THANKS to Super Duper for enabling me to review these products. Use the chart below by first selecting your language goal, followed by which version of Gateway is being used (c=child; T=Teen) and finally select appropriate products from the column on the left.

Outburst, Jr. is a commercially available game for children that can be purchased at many toy stores. This lesson plan utilizes this game as the format for teaching some of the Gateway 20, 40 and 60 vocabulary.
Getting to the Core© : A Tool for Systematically Teaching the Gateway© 60 Vocabulary. It is designed for users who have competent language skills yet could benefit from a guided introduction the the vocabulary. Getting to the Core can be used as a teaching tool by professionals. Teens and adults using Gateway 60 can use the packet as a self-learning instrument.
Communicating Like a Pro© with Gateway Pro presents a series of lessons introducing the vocabulary contents of Gateway Pro and Scanning Gateway Pro. It can be used by professionals as a teaching tool and individuals using Pro as as self-learning instrument.
